Hanszen House North Elevation

North Elevation

The residential college is the focal point of student life at Rice University. Each college is complemented with a master’s residence. The master acts as mentor for the student community within the residential college. Hanszen House was one of four prototypical houses built by Rice in the late 1950’s. It is the last house to undergo a major addition.

The renovation consists of a 1,300 square foot building addition and a 150 square foot kitchen renovation and HVAC system replacement. The building addition includes a family room, master bedroom suite, and 2-car garage. The building addition continues the original design and materials including the use of St. Joe brick at the first floor exterior walls, stucco at the second floor walls and flat clay roof tiles.
