A lake retreat for a family of five is nestled into an existing stand of cypress and sycamore trees along the shores of Lake McQueeney, located near Seguin, Texas on the Guadalupe River. The camp is centered on a large family gathering space that includes the kitchen, dining room and living area. This space opens to large screened-in porches that provide shade, sheltered cross ventilation, additional activity space, and views over a shaded grass lawn to the lake. The main house also contains three bedrooms and baths, a sleeping loft located above the kitchen area, and utility support spaces. A garage building provides space for parking, equipment storage, and another sleeping loft. Site features include lawn space for various outdoor activities, a lakeside patio, and a renovated boathouse.
The main house is elevated above the natural grade, for flood protection, on brick clad, reinforced concrete piers and is constructed with exposed clear stained wood framing, stained cedar shingle siding, and galvanized metal standing seam roofs. Site paving has been minimized to preserve the rural character of the camp.
